Madras boys bowling team qualifies for state
The Madras High boys bowling team is headed to state.
Last Sunday at the Oregon State USBC Tournament in Klamath Falls, the boys finished second in District 6, and will return to the same venue Feb. 24-26 for the state tournament.
The Madras girls team placed fourth at districts, just one place below the cutoff for state.
The teams also learned that Anona Francis and Andrew Short will compete in the All-Star Tournament, held at Mt. Hood Lanes in Gresham March 10-11.
The teams are coached by Kalani and Tami Kepaa, of Madras, both of whom are heavily involved in leagues at Madras Bowl.
Kalani works at Keith Manufacturing and Tami at the Jefferson County Public Health Department. Both are volunteer coaches for the team.
After districts wrapped up Sunday night, Tami shared the following message on her Facebook page: "Whew, what a day — 12 long hours at the bowling alley! We honored all seniors, and made sure Coach Kalani had a Snickers in his pocket ... Thank you Bend High for co-oping with us. Our ladies did great for being a new team; everyone had a great attitude all day long! We finished fourth.
Congratulations to our Madras boys team! They finished second today overall and made it to state. They'll be returning to Klamath Falls Feb. 23, 24 and 25! Nice job, gentlemen! Kalani is a tough coach, and I'm glad to see that it paid off! You all should be very proud of yourselves, you made state as a team!
Congratulations to Anona Francis and Andrew Short for making the All-Stars! That is a fantastic individual accomplishment!
A huge thank you to all the parents and our community for your continued support! You're very much appreciated.
Way to be Madras!"
