Training days at Ridgeview
Culver track and field held its own against 5A schools in second track meet of the year.
Redmond, Mountain View, Ridgeview, and Culver all competed Wednesday, March 21, at Ridgeview High School in Redmond. Culver was led by junior Irma Retano, who won in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1 minute 4.3 seconds.
"I felt good in the 400, but I also don't know because it wasn't that competitive. But I felt faster than I did last week," Retano said.
She also came in first in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:38.85 seconds, and placed first in a newer event for Retano, the 3,000-meter race, with a time of 12:3.57 seconds. Retano had to run the 4x400 relay right after her event, where Culver placed fourth.
When asked about running back-to-back events Retano responded, "Really tough, but I got it finished."
"I think what coach is doing is (giving) me a whole bunch of work to do. I don't think I'll run the 3,000 later on towards the end of the season," she said.
"I think he's just trying to make me work hard, just prepare me ... I think it does help me a lot," Retano said.
"I just like doing what coach is doing, so I can just put in as much work as I can before it's the end of the season."
Sophomore Johan Jaimes placed second while setting a PR in the 110 meter hurdle with a time of 20.49 seconds. Jaimes also tied for second with fellow Bulldog Kash Michael in the high jump with a height of 5 feet, 8 inches. Cesar Orozco placed sixth in the high jump with a jump of 5-0.

In women's shot put, Duff placed first with a heave of 37-1, ahead of Hughes who placed second with a toss of 36-8. Culver sophomore Talyn Barry placed ninth in the shot put, throwing 24-7.
