MHS softball players earn all league honors
The 2018 Tri-Valley Conference all league softball teams were released earlier this week and several Madras athletes were included.
Junior Lizzie Steuart earned first team pitcher. In 17 games, Steuart recorded 45 strikeouts and had an earned run average of 4.311. She only allowed 82 hits in 63.1 innings pitched.
Steuart also had the highest batting percentage for the Buffs at .517. In 21 games and 58 at-bats, she recorded 30 hits, six doubles, two home runs and 27 RBIs.
Sophomore Jiana Smith-Francis was named to the second team as a pitcher. Smith-Francis pitched 17 games, recording 57 strikeouts, with an ERA of 5.250, and gave up 118 hits in 60 innings pitched.
Smith-Francis also had a batting average of .400. In 22 games and 65 at-bats, she recorded 26 hits, nine doubles, two home runs and 28 RBIs.
Freshman Delaney Vibbert earned second team infield. In 20 games and 51 at-bats, Vibbert recorded 21 hits, two doubles, and 15 RBIs, with a batting average of .412.
Mary Olney, a junior, earned second team outfield. She recorded 23 hits, six doubles and 13 RBIs in 16 games, 61 at-bats. Olney finished the season with a .377 batting average.
Lone senior Arysta Pineda earned honorable mention infield. Pineda had a batting average of .351 in 22 games, with 89 at-bats. She recorded 27 hits, six doubles and 16 RBIs.
Junior Niyallee Cochran earned honorable mention utility player. Cochran recorded 28 hits, five doubles, one triple, one home run and 16 RBIs in 20 games played, with 61 at-bats. She finished the year with a .459 batting average.
All the stats recorded were during regular season play.
The girls softball team ended the year 12-11 overall, 8-7 TVC. They lost their play-in game 2-1 in nine innings to the 21-5 overall North Bend softball team on May 17.
