STEELE HAUGEN - Participants run in the Canyon Crawl in May.Spring/summer hikes around Central Oregon.

With the motto "Improving Lives through Movement," Apex Physical Therapy will be presenting the 2018 Burning Glutes for Lakes and Buttes hikes, part 2.

The goal of the hikes is to encourage exploration of the beautiful Central Oregon wilderness, make new friends, have fun, and be fit. Whether you are a novice or an expert, you can participate.

The four hikes, which begin May 19, and wind up Aug. 4, will be Black Butte, Smith Butte, Green Lakes, and Broken Top Lake. All of the hikes have amazing scenery, including mountain views, lava flows, and waterfalls that are all in the Central Oregon area.

All four hikes will be led by Jim Wallace, an Apex physical therapist, who has hiked the trails and will assist you in preparing yourself mentally and physically to be successful.

The hikes are nontechnical approaches requiring only hiking boots, food, water, and a few extra layers of clothing. The groups will go at a pace that allows everybody to stay together with rest breaks to refuel and rehydrate. Slow and steady wins the race!

Last year, Wallace led some training hikes at Smith Rock to get ready for the first hike at Black Butte.

The tentative schedule will be Black Butte, May 19; Smith Butte, June 16; Green Lakes, July 14; and Broken Top Lake, Aug. 4. Locations and/or dates may change due to weather.

Call Apex Physical Therapy at 541-475-1218 to sign up. Wallace will contact you with specifics when all details have been finalized.
