Get ready for the Canyon Rumble Frozen
Time to get in shape to be ready for the Canyon Rumble Frozen Half Marathon on Dec. 1. The race follows the Willow Canyon trail in Madras and begins at 10 a.m.
Runners can choose between the 10K or 5K, which both follow the same trail. The race is held on the first Saturday of December and is on a mix of pavement, gravel and dirt trails.
Prizes are awarded to the first-place finishers of each age bracket. All proceeds go to the MADras Runners Jack Watts Youth Running Grant, aimed at supporting and encouraging running in youths.
The half-marathon will cost $45, the 10K, $30, the 5K, $20, and the family run, $30. There will be day-of-race registration open from 8:30-9:45 a.m., but it will cost $5 extra to register.
You will get a special medal at the race if you participate in the Oregon Half Marathon race series. All runners have to do is participate in some of the races in the series. There are different levels and each level earns you a special medal on top of your race medals.
Prior to the Canyon Rumble Frozen race, two other races are scheduled around the state that are part of the Oregon Half Marathon series.
The Bend Ale Run Half Marathon, on Nov. 10, is a 10K race that is new to Central Oregon. The race starts at Northwest Crossing Road just north of Summit High School and begins at 7 a.m.
The Bend run allows participants to take in the views of the Cascade Mountain Range and when they finish the race, enjoy food and beer inside a tent.
There is also an Oregon Mid Valley Road Race Half Marathon, in Albany, on Nov. 22. The race, nicknamed Gobbler's Revenge, will also begin at 7 a.m.
The Canyon Rumble Frozen Half is the final medal race for the Oregon Half Marathon Series.
