Culver track second at Prairie City
The Culver track and field team travelled to Prairie City, participating in the fourth Annual Prairie City Invitational April 5.
With 15 boys teams participating in the invitational, Culver was able to place second with 102 points. Baker (174.5) beat out the Bulldogs, claiming gold and Grant Union (97) and Adrian (76.5) took third and fourth.
The 4x400 relay team of Braedan Chapman, Zennon Rybel, Caden Engel, and Jordan VanAlstyne had a time of three minutes and 59 seconds, placing first for Culver.
In the high jump, Kash Michael finished at the top with a leap of six feet. Teammate Johan Jaimes was right behind him with a leap of 5-06, placing third.
VanAlstyne was able to place second in the pole vault with a jump of 10-00 and Luke Spinelli placed fourth in the pole vault with a jump of 9-00.
In the 400-meter run, Michael finished in second (57.25), while VanAlstyne was right behind him, placing third (58.12). Michael also placed fourth in the long jump (18-05.50)
The 4x100 relay team of Michael, VanAlstyne, Engel and Cesar Orozco finished in second place with a time of 47.11. Orozco also finished the 100-meter dash in third (12.30).
Chapman was able to finish the 1,500-meter run with a time of 5:00.32, placing third for the Bulldogs. In the 300-meter hurdles, Jaimes (47.67) finished in third-place.
The Culver girls track team was competing against 12 other squads and was able to finish in seventh-place with 27 points.
Baker (185), Grant Union (135), and Adrian (84) finished top three at the meet.
Standout athlete Irma Retano placed second in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:49.71 and fifth in the long jump (14-09).
In the 100-meter hurdles, Bridget Lopez had a time of 19.06, placing fourth for Culver. Freshman Jasmin Dougherty ran the 1,500-meter race in 6:38.90, placing fifth.
The track team travels to Sisters, Wednesday, April 10 and travels to La Pine for the La Pine Invitational at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 13.
