Culver Lady Dogs softball team loses to Colton, 20-1 improve during long break in action.

The Culver softball team hosted the Colton Viking April 12 and lost 20-1.

DESIREE BERGSTROM - Kinzi Jengels slides into third base to secure a triple in the Lady Dawgs' game against Colton April 12.
Culver scored one run on a passed ball, but couldn't get anything else going.

"The girls played pretty well defensively," coach Shelly Brown said. "We struggled a bit pitching the ball in the first few innings. We started throwing some good pitches across the plate and they hit the ball in the gaps."

"Emma Hayes in center field played a heck of a game," she said. "If it wasn't for them hitting it to the gaps and us hitting it right to them, the score would have been a little different. Our infield played really well and I believe everyone was able to get the bat on the ball. We are right there, we just need to figure how to hit it in the gaps."

Kinzi Jengels led the Lady Dawgs with a triple.

"Just being outside, our girls have improved so much," Brown said. "Being able to play in games as well has helped a lot."

Culver hosts Santiam at 4 p.m. Monday, April 22 and travel to Jefferson at 4 p.m. Tuesday, April 23.

"I like these matchups," said Brown. "I think if we hit well, we can be very competitive. If the girls can find the gap, we are going to have ourselves a game."
