The Madras White Buffalo boys tennis team was on the road all this week. In their most recent meet, they beat Stayton 4-0, April 19.
Several matches were left unfinished due to weather, but the matches that only lasted two sets were able to be completed.
Esteban Gomez and Tony Giron are playing together again and showing why they were such a dangerous duo last season. Last year's district finalists competed for the first time together this season on April 16, defeating their Cascade opponents in three sets.
The two won all of their matches this week, including a 6-2, 6-2, victory over Daniel Johnson and Nolan Cramer.
Madras' Kobey Jorgensen and Roberto Garcia teamed up for the No. 2 doubles match, beating Lucas Langer and Ramon Curry 6-2, 6-2.
The White Buffalos also won the No. 4 singles match and the No. 4 doubles match by forfeit.
The White Buffalo boys tennis team traveled to Molalla, facing their Tri-Valley Conference foes April 18. The boys lost to the Indians 6-2 during Thursday's contest.
Gomez and Giron faced Pietro Elia and Mason Simpson during the April 18, No 1 double match and won a very close, tough match, 4-6, 7-5, 6-4.
Angel Ramos and Sebastian Norato played in the No. 3 doubles match for Madras, defeating Jackson Jones and Jordan Cole, 6-3, 7-6 (10-8).
The No. 2 doubles match was won by Molalla's Nate Stephens and Noss Kutsez over Jorgensen and Garcia, 6-1, 6-1.
Cankuna Chavez and Elmer Egoavil couldn't get by the Indians No. 4 team of Matt and Mike Stephans, losing 6-3, 6-1.
In the singles matches, Eric Jones, of Molalla beat Coty Simmons 6-3, 6-4, and Lucas Kendrap gave the Indians a victory in the No. 2 singles match, beating Killian Smith 6-0, 6-2.
Madras' Luis Mancera lost to Anthony Ehlringer 6-4, 6-4, and Kahne Herkshan lost to Tony Martin 7-6 (5), 6-2.
The Madras boys tennis program traveled to Cascade April 16, and lost to the Cougars in a very close contest. Madras and Cascade tied 4-4 in matches, but the Cougars barely edged out the Buffs 71-70 in games.
Gomez and Giron played together for the first time since the 2018 district tournament and picked up right where they left off, beating Adam Marquez and Jake Farr 6-3, 5-7, 6-3.
Jorgensen and Garcia played in the No. 2 doubles match for the Buffs and beat Brydon Burgdoff and Colton Lee 6-2, 6-2.
The No. 4 Madras doubles team of Byron Patt and Herkshan easily beat Brian Gutierrez and Saul Garcia 6-2, 6-0.
Ramos and Norrato were defeated by Cascade's Colton Lee and Eric Mitchelson 6-4, 6-4.
Mancera was the only Buffalo to win a singles match, beating Justin Torres 6-2, 6-2 in the No. 3 competition.
The No. 1 singles match was played by Smith and Ben Suelze, of Cascade. Suelze defeated Smith 6-2, 6-1. Simmons lost the No. 2 match to Jake Surgeon 6-3, 6-1.
Anthony Young lost to Cougars athlete Austin Thatcher 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 4 match.
Madras travels to Philomath, facing the Warriors at 4 p.m. Thursday, April 25. They host Sister, facing the Outlaws at 4 p.m. Tuesday, April 30.
Districts is coming up for the Buffs and Madras will host the first round of districts at 12 p.m. Thursday, May 2.
The second and third days of districts will be held at Black Butte Ranch in Sisters, Monday, May 6 and Thursday, May 9.
