Culver Bulldogs boys track team dominates at Gilchrest Invite for first place finish.

STEELE HAUGEN - Freshman Zennon Rybel hands the relay baton to teammate Johan Jaimes. The Culver 4x100-meter relay team placed first at a meet in Gilchrest May 4.The Culver boys track team won the Gilchrist Small Schools Invite May 4, with 11 teams competing at the meet.

Culver scored 134.5 team points, while Hosanna Christian (109) and Paisley (92) were behind them.

The girls team scored 57 team points, placing sixth at the meet. Paisley (82.5), Crook County (70), and Gilchrist (67) placed in the top three.

The 100-meter dash was the highlight for the Culver boys, with Caden Engel (11.73), Zennon Rybel (11.77) and Cesar Orozco (11.95) placing top three for Culver. Engel, Rybel and Orozco all ran their personal best times during the race.

Rybel also placed second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.44 seconds.

In the 800-meter run, Braeden Chapman ran a personal best time of 2:18.00 to claim gold. He also placed second in the 1,500-meter run (4:40.75) and fifth in the 400-meter run (57.52). Francisco Melchor was able to place fourth in the 800-meter race (2:33.43).

The Culver 4x100 meter relay team of Jordan VanAlstyne, Engel, Orozco and Rybel placed first with a time of 45.28 seconds, beating Hosanna Christian (46.32).

VanAlstyne, Rybel, Clay Matthews and Kash Michael ran in the 4x400 relay race and placed second (3:43.33) behind Hosanna Chistian (3:40.50).

STEELE HAUGEN - Bridget Lopez places third in both the 100- and 300-meter hurdles at the Gilchrest Small School Invite May 4. 
Michael had a leap of 6 feet in the high jump, placing second, with teammate Johan Jaimes right behind him (5-10). Jaimes also finished in third place in both the 300-meter hurdles (46.51) and the long jump (18-11).

In the pole vault, VanAlstyne finished in fourth place with a leap of 9-06.

During the girls' competition, Culver's Talyn Barry threw a personal best 30-11.75 in the shot put, placing second.

Lady Dawg hurdler Bridget Lopez placed third in both the 100-meter hurdles (18.18) and the 300-meter hurdles (54.08).

Freshman Trystin Smith had a time of 1:16.27 in the 400-meter run, placing third. Anyla Rico threw a personal best in the javelin (100-4), placing fourth.

Culver travels to Grant Union High School for the 2A-SD5 Special District 5 Championship meet at 11 a.m. Friday, May 10.
