Kash Michael, Cesar Orozco, 4x100-meter relay team, finish on top at district meet.

STEELE HAUGEN - Kash Michael placed first in the long jump (19-10.75) and claimed gold in the high jump (6-04).The Culver track and field program produced three individual district champions and a 4x100-meter relay district champ team at the 2A-SD5 District championship at Grant Union High School in John Day.

Culver's Kash Michael claimed gold in the high jump with a leap of 6 feet, 3 inches, with teammate Johan Jaimes placing third (5-06).

Michael also tied for first in the long jump (19-10.75) with teammate Cesar Orozco (19-10.75). The jumps were both personal bests for Michael and Orozco.

Jordan VanAlstyne tied for first place in the pole vault with a leap of 11-07 and teammate Luke Spinelli came tied for second place (10-07).

Culver's 4x100-meter relay team of Zennon Rybel, VanAlstyne, Caden Engel and Orozco placed first with a time of 44.62 seconds. They were able to beat Enterprise (44.67) in a very close race.

STEELE HAUGEN - Cesar Orozco ties with teammate Kash Michael, placing first in the long jump (19-10.75).In the 100-meter dash, Engel (11.71), Rybel (11.75) and Orozco (11.76) finished in third, fourth and fifth places. Rybel also finished the 200-meter dash in second place (23.71).

Freshman Braedan Chapman placed fifth in the 1,500-meter run (4:34.79), and Johan Jaimes placed fourth in the 300-meter hurdles (45.70).

Culvers' 4x400-meter relay team of Chapman, Rybel, VanAlstyne, and Michael placed third (3:38.70). Heppner (3:35.06) won the race.

The boys finished with 104 team points, placing fourth at the district meet. Heppner (137), Enterprise (121) and Grant Union (110) finished as the top three schools.

Bridget Lopez placed second in the 100-meter hurdles (17.65) for the Lady Dawgs.

In the shot put, Talyn Barry had a throw of 32-00.50, placing second, while freshman Jasmin Dougherty placed fourth in the pole vault (6-04).

Anyla Rico placed fifth in the javelin (101-09). Culver had 60 team points, placing sixth. Grant Union (182), Enterprise (134) and Stanfield/Echo (85.5) placed in the top three at the district meet.

Several Bulldogs qualified for the state meet at Western Oregon University in Monmouth May 17-18.
