Culver Lady Dawgs softball program struggles in games late in year during league play.

STEELE HAUGEN - Emma Hayes takes a lead off at third base, ready to score. The Culver softball team lost three games last week. The Lady Dawgs lost to Colton 22-3, Delphian 19-7 and Western Christian 25-5.

Culver couldn't keep up with Colton during the 22-3 loss on May 6.

"We struggled at the plate and had quite a few errors," said co-head coach Shelly Brown. "We had a good couple of innings, but are just falling apart when it comes to mental errors."

On May 8, the Lady Dawgs lost 19-7 to the Delphian Dragons, a team they beat 18-17 earlier in the season.

"We had some big mental errors in this game as well," Brown said. "The team didn't show up to play and we should not have lost the game. Our bats weren't bad, but we just couldn't hit the gaps."

Culver played their latest game May 9, against Western Christian at home.

"They were a solid team," said Brown. "They had a good pitcher, too. We had a couple good plays defensively. Mia Gamboa came out late in the season to play and had a great game in left field. She went through a workout there though. Nena Mendoza pitched for us and did a pretty good job. They are just a good team all around."

The Lady Dawgs have their senior night and last home game of the year at 2 and 4 p.m. Wednesday, May 15.

"I have to give the girls credit," Brown said. "They have done a fair job throughout the year, especially for a young team."
