Lady Buffs win two summer basketball games
The Madras Lady Buffs summer basketball team held on to beat Crane 50-46 in the Buffalo Dome June 21.
Madras graduated a good group of seniors last year, but this new group of talented athletes is coming together well this summer.
The Lady Buffs took an early lead over Crane (1A), but the Mustangs tied the game at 11-11 with 8:45 left in the first half. The summer ball game was two 20-minute halves.
The tie didn't last very long, as the Buffalos ended halftime up 32-17. The second half was looking like a breeze for MHS, up 43-27 with around eight minutes left, but at the 3:30 mark, Crane was only down 43-42.
Madras made sure they took care of the ball and business, securing a 50-46 victory.
The team later played against the Kennedy (2A) and was able to beat the Trojans by four points on their home floor.
The Lady Buffs are heading to Gonzaga for a team basketball camp in mid-July this year.
"I think the team is going to be good," senior Dominique Walker said. "I think we are going to be a good team and can make it to state. Summer ball is important because we need competition and we will play good teams at our Gonzaga camp."
