Madras scores three rushing touchdowns, prepares to face Crook County Friday

MHS LOGO - Madras will play Crook County in Prineville Friday following its 21-0 win over North Marion March 19.
After struggling in their first two games of the season, the Madras White Buffalos put together a complete game on Friday, blanking the North Marion Huskies 21-0 at home in Tri-Valley Conference football play.

"We took a big step forward," said Madras head coach Kurt Taylor. "We had a great week of practice and changed some things up so we could really teach and build confidence for the boys."

The White Buffalo defense shut down North Marion all night as Madras stuffed the Huskies at the line of scrimmage.

Madras got on the board in the first quarter on a 9-yard run by Angel Jimenez. Carter Dunten kicked the extra point and the White Buffalos led 7-0.

Neither team scored in the second quarter, but the White Buffalos exploded for a pair of third-quarter scores.

First, quarterback Dru Boyle carried the ball over the goal line from two yards out. Dunten's kick was good and Madras led 14-0. Then, late in the quarter, Nathan Stout ran it in from three-yards out. Dunten's kick was good and the White Buffalos led 21-0.

Madras had just 158 yards of total offense, but that was more than enough. Boyle, a sophomore, went 6 for 17 passing for 115 yards. Dunten led the White Buffalos in receiving with 54 yards, while Stout led the team rushing with 37 yards.

Reece White had five tackles and a fumble recovery to lead the White Buffalo defense. Johan Poland had three tackles and an interception, while Ethan Graeme had two tackles and an interception.

"Defensively we had a great game plan and really knew what North Marion was trying to do," Taylor said. "Offensively we were much better up front. We still have lots of room for improvement, particularly in the passing game, but I am very pleased with their effort and their ability to grow each week. Our goal is to send the seniors out on a high note the next two weeks, and have fun."

The White Buffalos, 1-2, are on the road again on Friday when they go to Prineville to take on the Crook County Cowboys, 2-1, in a 7 p.m. game.
