Summer volleyball at Madras set
Madras High School's new volleyball coach, Frank Maynard, will be holding summer drop-in volleyball for middle school and high school athletes for five days in July and August.
Those entering grades six through eight are invited to the high school main gym from 3 to 4:30 on clinic days. Those entering grades nine through 12 will have the floor from 4:30 to 6 p.m. The program will run on July 12, 14 and 19, and again on Aug. 2 and 4.
The program will entail volleyball skills development. Attendance is not mandatory for trying out for school teams. Participants are to enter the gyms via the east side doors.
There is no charge to participate. Parents are welcome to attend. Athletes are asked to bring a filled water battle to the sessions. Participants must wear proper volleyball attire and no phones will be allowed during practice/playing time.
Last year's high school varsity athletes are invited to attend the six-eight-grade camp to help as mentors and assistants. Current middle school coaches are invited to attend all camps as well graduated high school playes who want to prep for college seasons.
From Aug. 9-12, Maynard plans to hold a summer camp fundraiser for the volleyball program and it will cost $25 per participant. Scholarships will be available, however, and no one will be turned away. Daily doubles for the high school program will start Aug. 16.
