Cael White receives honorable mention on all-state football team
Madras junior Cael White was recently named as an honorable mention in the Class 4A all-state football team.
White, who led the Buffs' receiving game as one of the top wideouts in the Tri-Valley, was the only Madras player recognized on the all-state list.
White led the team with 36 catches for 588 yards and six touchdowns during the regular season. All of those were team-leading marks for the standout junior.
Despite high expectations coming into the year after a strong showing as a sophomore, White had a slow start to the season. He caught just one pass in the season-opening win over Sisters.
Things quickly heated up for White, though, as he scored both touchdowns for Madras in the Buffs' heartbreaking 14-13 loss at home to Sweet Home. White had five catches for 62 yards against the Huskies.
White also had five catches in the Buffs' next game, a 35-12 loss on the road against Ridgeview as Madras came out of a COVID pause. White racked up 87 yards through the air and also had an interception against the Ravens.
The connection between White and fellow junior Dru Boyle really started to click in league play, starting with Madras' first Tri-Valley game against Estacada. White had 10 catches for 113 yards in the loss, before going for 65 yards on three catches in the Buffs' 35-0 win over North Marion.
The following week, White made one of the plays of the season for Madras when he caught a pass from Boyle at midfield and took it in for an 80-yard touchdown on the opening drive against rivals Crook County. White had another 32-yard touchdown grab against the Cowboys, eventually totaling 142 yards on three catches.
In the team's Tri-Valley finale, White grabbed nine passes against a tough Gladstone defense, gaining 107 yards and scoring the Buffs' only touchdown of the game against the Gladiators.
