Jefferson County school employees will be able to get COVID vaccines this week

HOLLY SCHOLZ/MADRAS PIONEER - Employees of Jefferson County school districts will get the Moderna vaccine this week.

This week, Jefferson County Public Health will administer COVID-19 vaccinations to school district employees from all four districts within Jefferson County, 509-J, Culver, Ashwood and Black Butte.

Clinics will be Wednesday through Friday, Jan. 27-29 at the Performing Arts Center in Madras. A clinic will be held Feb. 8 in Camp Sherman for Black Butte School District employees.

"We have enough vaccine for every school employee that would like one," said Jefferson County Public Health Public Information Officer Tami Kepa'a. "School employees should talk to their supervisors on how they will be staged to receive the vaccine."

Public Health nurses will administer the Moderna vaccine. Those receiving the vaccine will need the second dose 28 days or more after the first dose. Public Health personnel will call to schedule an appointment for the school employees to get their second dose.

Kepa'a said Public Health is planning additional points of dispensing for vaccines at Crooked River Ranch, as well as the Community Center and for veterans in Madras. An additional clinic will be held in Camp Sherman in March. More details will follow.
