More than 50 Yamhill County authors are represented in the new book; ceremony set for Thursday

The Paper Gardens writing contest celebrates its 25th year with an award ceremony and book release event from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday in the ballroom at the Chehalem Community Center, 415 E. Sheridan St.

The judges for the annual Yamhill County creative writing contest and publication will introduce more than 50 local authors - children, youth and adults - who will share their winning poetry and prose.

The judge for 2018 are authors Barbara Drake for poetry and Lisa Ohlen Harris for prose. Each winning writer will receive a copy of the Paper Gardens 2018 book. Books will also be for sale at the Celebration and afterwards at Chapters Books in Newberg.

As part of the contest's silver anniversary, a retrospective exhibit will be on display at the Chehalem Cultural Center through June 1st.

"We hope people who have been involved or are interested in writing will stop by to see the exhibit and/or join us for the Celebration on May 3," coordinator Deborah Weiner said in an email.
