Transfer station will suspend accepting yard debris at its Wynooski Road depot

The Newberg Waste Management Transfer Station has offered a drop-off time frame for the public to toss out yard debris until Aug. 6, when they will suspend the service at the station at 2904 S. Wynooski St.

"Summer is a popular time for yard projects," Waste Management District Manager Dave Huber said in a press release. "We are alerting the community now so people have time to bring in material before Monday, Aug. 6."

This change does not affect yard waste collection in curbside containers. Waste Management customers with yard waste collection containers at the curb should continue to set out carts on regular service days.

Huber said the operational change is necessary to ensure storm water compliance and to assess alternatives.

"We will use the months ahead to study alternatives for on-site storage of yard waste," he said, "to minimize yard waste exposure to rain."

To eliminate on-site storage issues with yard waste collected from curbside carts, Huber said Waste Management will temporarily haul material directly to sites permitted by the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality.
