Local stop part of a six-town tour of the 1st Congressional District in northwest Oregon

Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici will appear in Newberg next week as part of a tour of six towns in the 1st Congressional District.

The three-term representative and former Oregon legislator will make a stop in Newberg from 6 to 7 p.m. Sept. 20 at Portland Community College Newberg, 135 Werth Blvd.Bonamici

"This is a pivotal time in our country on many issues, so it is important for people to participate in our democracy and make their voices heard," Bonamici said in a press release. "Town hall meetings allow me to meet with constituents in person so I can hear what matters most to them and address their needs in Congress."

Bonamici said the reasoning behind the town hall meetings is simple.

"In recent months many Oregonians have contacted me about pressing issues that I look forward to discussing," she said. "These include health care, protecting the environment, immigration and holding the Trump administration accountable."

During the town halls, Bonamici will take questions from constituents and give updates on her work on behalf of the 1st Congressional District, which includes all of Yamhill, Washington, Clatsop and Columbia counties and part of Multnomah County.

In addition, members of Bonamici's staff will be on hand to assist citizens "experiencing problems with federal agencies such as the VA, Social Security or the IRS," according to the release.

Other town hall meetings are slated for 1 p.m. Saturday at Seaside Heights Elementary School, 6 p.m. Sept. 17 at Tualatin High School, 11 a.m. at the Banks Fire Station and 2 p.m. at Scappoose Middle School on Sept. 22, and 6 p.m. Sept. 24 at The Friendly House Gym in Portland.
