Firefighters from Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue responded to a two-alarm fire at Newberg Dodge at approximately 6:30 a.m. Wednesday morning after receiving multiple 9-1-1 calls.
When firefighters, primarily responding from the Springbrook fire station, arrived at the Portland Road business they found a void space near the front door aflame and quickly knocked it down, according to TVF&R public information officer Kim Haughn.
Investigators determined that the cause of the blaze was "improperly disposed of smoking materials" that took flame adjacent to the front door. The second alarm was sounded, Haughn said, due to "type of occupancy," namely the vehicles parked nearby.
Newberg Dodge employees were credited with removing the vehicles from the showroom to safeguard them against the fire, Haughn said, adding that although there was little damage to the building a damage estimate hadn't been established as of Wednesday afternoon.
