Sue Ryan named state's top city recorder
Newberg City Recorder Sue Ryan was named the Oregon Association of Municipal Recorders "Recorder of the Year" at a Sept. 21 conference of the organization. The honor recognizes a person's professional accomplishments and excellence in service.
Ryan, employed at the city since July 2014, works closely with the city manager and city staff, as well as the public.
"Sue Ryan is the ultimate city recorder professional," City Manager Joe Hannan said. "She is relentless in her efforts to make sure that all city meetings are public, noticed to as many people as possible and reported with timely, thorough and understandable minutes. … Sue is the No. 1 advocate of citizen democracy and she constantly strives to make the city decision-making process transparent and accessible to all. ... She has developed, refined and administered a clear election-nominating and reporting process that insures anyone interested can get information to decide whether to run for office and then she makes sure that all candidates are afforded equal access to information."
OAMR, a professional organization that promotes governmental relationships and provides educational training for more than 200 Oregon city recorders statewide, accepts nominations for city recorders who have made outstanding contribution or performed outstanding service to the organization, the profession or a city during the fiscal year.
"It is not sufficient that a person performed his/her duties well," OMAR's website said. "This award recognized outstanding service and performance over and above the person's job description."
