The city program designed to improve the drinking water system and boost water quality

The city of Newberg will resume its annual water main flushing program Nov. 1 and continue through May 2019. The effort will be carried out by public works maintenance crews and is done to upgrade water quality.

Large amounts of water from the flushing points will be pushed away toward ditches or to the street and regular water customers, both residential and businesses, will not be affected during the program, the city said. However, it is possible some area residents could encounter water discoloration from sediments being flushed from the lines.

If discoloration occurs, the water should return to normal shortly after the flushing is finished, city officials said. If the water discoloration persists, residents should contact the Public Works Maintenance Department at 503-537-1234.

Signs announcing the flushing program will be displayed in public areas that are affected and will contain a pocket of flyers for more information.
