Victim says two suspects forcibly stole his wallet on Nov. 3 in the downtown area

A pair of Newberg men were arrested on Nov. 3 on allegations of robbery in the downtown area.

According to a release from the Newberg-Dundee Police Department, officers responded to the 500 block of East First Street after a victim reported that two suspects forcibly stole his wallet.

"The victim provided descriptions of the suspects and relayed information that one of them might be armed," the release said.

Police then received a second report of a street robbery during the same time frame in the 400 block of South Blaine Street near Memorial Park.

"The second victim did not report anything stolen, although an attempt was made," the release said.

After an officer attempted to contact a "suspect walking away from the area," the individual fled, prompting the officer to give chase.

"After a brief foot pursuit, the suspect concealed (himself) in the back yard of a residence," the release said.

That prompted police to bring in a canine officer, who searched the yard and found the suspect hiding in a shed. He was identified as Newberg resident Logan Patrick Hutchinson, 20. He was taken into custody and charged with second-degree robbery and attempted robbery and third-degree theft and attempted theft.

The second suspect was identified by witnesses and detained soon thereafter at his Newberg residence. He was identified as Hunter Dean Matthews, 22, and was charged with second-degree robbery and third-degree theft.

Both men were transported to the Yamhill County jail to await arraignment.
