A Woodburn woman is killed in a two-vehicle collision on Highway 240 Tuesday morning

An early-morning collision on a highway near Newberg resulted in the death of a Woodburn woman Tuesday morning.

According to a release from the Oregon State Police, troopers and emergency personnel were dispatched to a two-vehicle collision on Highway 240 about three miles west of Newberg near Stone Road at about 5:22 a.m.

Initial reports were that a Toyota pick-up driven by Jeffrey Brown, 36, of Yamhill, was eastbound on the highway when it crossed into the westbound lane and collided with a Nissan Sentra operated by Woodburn resident Irene Gomez, 34.

Gomez sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, the release said. Brown was transported by Life Flight helicopter to a Portland hospital with serious injuries. His condition is unknown.

The highway was closed for nearly four hours as the accident was investigated and the scene cleared. The state police was aided in the effort by the Yamhill County Sheriff's Office deputies and crews from Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
