Local grads receive scholarships from First Federal; Friends of Chehalem House will meet

Friends of Chehalem House will hold annual meeting

The Friends of Chehalem House are inviting the community and volunteers to its annual meeting for election of officers at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 30 in the fellowship hall at the River Street Church of God. The organization is a nonprofit that governs Chehalem House Affordable Housing, Lucky Finds Thrift Store and the Newberg Drop-In Center.

Local grads receive scholarships from First Federal

A pair of local high school graduates are among the 189 college-bound students included in First Federal's annual scholarship program, which topped $259,000 this year.

Olivia Veeman, a graduate of Veritas School, will utilize the scholarship money to attend Corban University in Salem. Madison Roque, a Newberg High School grad, will apply her scholarship cash to attend Oregon State University in Corvallis.

Job fair on tap Sept. 15

A-dec -- in conjunction with WorkSource Oregon, South Coast Business and Willamette Worksource -- will hold Professions in the Park: Walk-Up Job Fair from 1 to 3 p.m. Sept. 15 at A-dec Park, 2601 Crestview Drive.

More than 20 employers will be on hand and hiring, including Fred Meyer, Ushio America, Visiting Angels, ARE, Helping Hands Caregivers, Essential Services, HDE Home Care, The Allison, EDU Staff, Newberg School District, PMM Technologies, MGC Pure Chemicals America, Friendsview Retirement, Providence Health, George Fox food service, A-dec and others.

There is no cost to employers or job seekers to attend.
