McMinnville residents die in collision of car and motorcycle near Champoeg Road on Satuday

Two people are dead and two others were transported to the hospital after a three-vehicle collision along Highway 219 south of Newberg last weekend.

At 4:41 p.m. on Saturday the crash occurred on Highway 219 at Northest Champoeg Road, garnering a response from Oregon State Police and emergency personnel.

An Acura MDX driven by 62-year-old Judee Fehsenfeld of Wilsonville was heading southbound on Highway 219 and stopped just short of the highway's intersection with Champoeg Road. The driver attempted to re-enter Highway 219 after stopping and collided with a BMW K16 motorcycle heading south and operated by 78-year-old Steven Sorensen of Scio with passenger Joanne De May, 77, of Salem, sitting on the back of the motorcycle.

"The collision between Fehsenfeld and Sorensen sent the motorcycle out of control into the northbound lane of Highway 219, where it was struck by a northbound Kia Sorrento operated by Traci Holmes, 58, of McMinnville," a release from OSP said.

Sorensen and De May both suffered fatal injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene. Holmes had two passengers in her vehicle: McMinnville residents Marla Robertson, 67, and Beverly Lane, 84. All three of the occupants of Holmes' car were transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. Fehsenfeld did not sustain any injuries, according to an OSP release.

After the crash, Highway 219 was closed in that area for more than four hours. OSP received assistance from St. Paul fire and medical personnel, the Marion County Sheriff's Office and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
