Get your hands dirty and help Champoeg
Champoeg State Heritage Area and SOLVE Oregon will partner to hold a riverside clean-up on the Willamette from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday.
"Join us at Champoeg to remove invasive blackberry, ivy and black locust between the restore native prairie and the Willamette River," SOLVE officials said in a press release. "Champoeg was once a thriving town along the river in the 1850s and this clean-up will help reclaim the historic open landscape."
Register to join the effort at www.solveoregon.org or by calling 503-844-9571.
Volunteers will meet at the Champoeg Townsite Trailhead parking area on the road to the Riverside Day-Use Area. Visitor parking permits will be provided to registered volunteers.
Organizers suggest wearing long pants, long-sleeve shirts and closed-tow shoes. Water, tools and gloves will be provided, although "if you have a favorite pair of gardening gloves, pruners or loppers, bring them," the release said.
