School board seeks applicants

The Newberg school board is seeking applications to fill the school district's Zone 2 and Zone 3 positions following the recent resignations of Rebecca Piros and Brandy Penner.

The school district requires appointees to live within the respective zones and be registered voters. The successful appointees will complete Piros and Penner's terms office through June 2023.

"If there are no qualified candidates from the respective zones, the board will consider applications from within other zones in the district," a release from the school district said.

Newberger named to President's List at Texas university

Newberg native Simon Winikka, a mathematics major, recently earned a spot on the President's List at LeTourneau University in Longview, Texas. Students must earn a 4.0 grade-point average for the semester to receive the honor.

Locals earn accolades from Gonzaga

Dundee native Lydia Chambers was named to the President's List at Gonzaga University recently after earning a 3.85 to 4.0 grade-point average for the spring term at the Spokane institution.

Newberg resident Weston Vaughn earned the designation as well.
