Virtual auction will benefit local animal shelter, Legacy League begins new year

Local humane society's third annual virtual auction occurs Sept. 12-18

The Homeward Bound Pets Humane Society is hosting its third annual virtual auction from Sept. 12-18. Funds raised from donations and bids will go toward helping homeless and neglected animals. University invites public to attend Legacy League's luncheons

Legacy League luncheons are starting again at George Fox University and everyone is welcome to attend. The first luncheon is scheduled for noon Sept. 23 in Canyon Commons. The speaker, GFU President Robin Baker, will provide a university update. Lunch is $15. Legacy League is comprised of volunteers who serve at and support university events and activities, as well as raise scholarship funds for students.

Newell Pioneer Village's Village Faire returns Sept. 17

After two years of COVID-19 restrictions, Newell Pioneer Village is back to celebrating the harvest season with its annual Village Faire. The community event, which showcases the traditions and lifestyle of Oregon pioneers, will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 17.

Attendees can watch re-enactments of life during the mid-1800s, tour the Pioneer Mothers Cabin, listen to pioneer history through songs from the New Oregon History Minstrels and visit the Mountain Man Camp to learn about the difficulties of surviving in the wild.

Attendees can also participate in pioneer activities, such as carding wool, washing laundry and playing with toys.

On sale are baked potatoes, bratwursts, corn on the cob, pie and 1800s-inspired treats from Lille's Sweet Shop in McMinnville.

Additionally, attend a bell ringing ceremony and a watch a presentation from John Adams to celebrate the Constitution.
