To the editor:
It's time to renew my subscription to our local newspaper. To be honest I struggle with the same argument that I had last time renewal came up. Overall I admit that the Newberg Graphic does a fine job of covering local news. However, I take issue with the Pamplin Media Group editorial board opinions toward the 2nd Amendment. The overall coverage of 2nd Amendment issues by mainstream media is less than objective and The Graphic is no different.
If the Pamplin Media Group expects the people to support their 1st Amendment right to free speech they should in return support the people's right to exercise the 2nd Amendment right to bear arms.
In spite of the negative propaganda from mainstream news media regarding the 2nd Amendment, people are starting to wake up to the fact that the extreme left's argument is not about gun control, it's about control. History has repeated itself in Venezuela and there are those that would like to see the same history repeat itself in the USA.
The media needs to do its job in reporting news, not opinions or agendas. And everybody needs to do their homework on why the Constitution has the 1st and 2nd Amendments to begin with.
Like my ol' man used to say, "Before you decide to let the government take care of you, take a good look at Native American history".
Bottom line, if the Pamplin Media Group will not support my right to protect myself and my family, neither will I support their constitutional right to free speech.
All that to say, after 20 years of subscribing to The Newberg Graphic, I no longer choose to do so.
Doug Baker, Newberg
