Department of Motor vehicles does not create a sterile environment for its customers

To the editor:

This letter could be longer, but I will just give you the basic facts to get my point across.

In going to the DMV to get my driver's license renewed, I had to take an eye test there. I was not offered a wipe to clean the machine before using it. I asked for one and the woman could not find any. (There was a device hanging on the wall behind her that held some). She searched for quite some time on her desk and finally gave me a very small, individually-wrapped one to use.

I asked her, "How often are these eye machines cleaned and she said "occasionally."

Really, with all the viruses, flu, colds, etc., not to mention eye infections, you can only use one side of the wipe for each eye or you are just dragging a problem to the other eye. Ask for wipes or take your own.

I further think that the DMV should look into this problem at all its locations.
