Workshop for 150 high school students will feature a keynote address from poet

The Arts Alliance of Yamhill County will bring together a group of budding student scribes from high schools across the county for a one-day conference called "Fire Writers."

The Jan. 14 conference, which will feature a keynote address from Oregon Poet Laureate Kim Stafford, will host 150 students and a few teachers from each school gathering at the Chehalem Cultural Center in Newberg for workshop sessions taught by professional writers, college professors and high school teachers. The sessions will be in the morning and afternoon, with a lunch panel in between highlighting programs and careers for writers.

Students will learn, write, network and develop methods to continue growing their writing practice beyond the conference. There will be nine morning and nine afternoon workshops that students had to pre-register for, plus a teacher workshop with Stafford.
