Meeting of Newberg planning commission meeting moved to library
Due to ongoing work at the Newberg Public Safety Building, the next meeting of the planning commission will be held at 7 p.m. Sept. 12 at the Newberg Public Library, 503 E. Hancock St.
Waste Management to remain open on Labor Day
Waste Management customers in Yamhill County will receive normal services on Labor Day, Sept. 2. This includes customers in Dundee, Newberg and other parts of Yamhill County. Riverbend Recycling Center and Landfill will be open from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Waste Management Transfer Station in Newberg will be closed, however. Want to prep yourself for a run/walk? Providence has just the series for you
Dr. Ted Foster, a cardiologist at the Providence Heart Clinic in Newberg, will lead a 12-week program called "Heart to Start" that is designed to help participants prepare to run or walk their first 5K.
The series is set for 6 to 7 p.m. on Mondays starting Sept. 9 at Laurel Ridge Middle School, 21416 S.W. Copper Terrace in Sherwood.
According to a release from Providence, "the program provides a plan, expert advice and whole lot of support" to help participants train for and successfully compete a 5K by Thanksgiving at Sherwood's Give and Gobble Run/Walk, slated for Nov. 28 at Sherwood High School. Participants will receive training plans and take part in weekly group workouts with online resources and motivation from Foster spurring them on.

American Red Cross blood drives set for Friday at Grocery Outlet and the Dundee fire station
The American Red Cross will hold a pair of blood drives in the area this week. The first is set for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday at the Newberg Grocery Outlet store, 1510 Portland Road.
It will be followed up that afternoon from 1 to 6 p.m. at the Dundee Fire station, 801 Highway 99W.

Donors will receive a $5 Amazon gift card as the company has donated $1 million to the Red Cross to bolster the effort.
According to a release from the Red Cross, blood can be safely donated every 56 days and the organization is experiencing a summer blood shortage.
