Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue looking for volunteers and schedules an open house

TVF&R seeks volunteers; open house set

Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue is recruiting volunteers for service throughout its district and to that end will hold a volunteer open house from 6 to 9 p.m. Jan. 7 at Station 50, 12617 S.W. Walnut St. in Tigard.

The agency has two ways to serve: Incident support volunteers transport rehabilitation units to major incidents where TVF&R crews are involved, including breathing apparatus, medical monitoring and providing other support in non-firefighting roles. These volunteers also participate in public education events, attend parades, support community activities and attend monthly drills. The department also has auxiliary volunteers, who play a more active role in TVF&R's public education programs and also attend community events. These are non-emergency response volunteers who may work once or twice a week or even just a few times a year, depending on their abilities and schedules.

To qualify, volunteers must be a minimum 18 years old, have a high school diploma or GED, pass a criminal background check, have a valid Oregon driver's license and live within TVF&R's service area. In addition, volunteers must undergo CPR and automated external defibrillator (AED) training within fix months; incident support volunteers must also emergency medical responder certification within 12 months.
