Hallman named to Oregon Wildfire Council
Gov. Kate Brown has named former Newberg fire chief Les Hallman, now an assistant chief at Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue, to the Oregon Wildfire Council.
The council, according to a release from TVF&R, is called on to evaluate national and global best practices in fire prevention, management and suppression and make recommendations for wildfire management in the future in Oregon.
"Chief Hallman has extensive experience fighting and managing wildfires," a statement from TVF&R said. "Since TVF&R's service area includes places at risk of brush and wildfires, his insight will benefit our community and our state."
Blood drives set for St. Paul and Newberg
The American Red Cross will hold blood donation events in the area through Dec. 15 and is urging citizens to join in as "health emergencies don't pause for a pandemic or holiday celebrations."
Those donating blood, platelets and plasma by Dec. 15 will be automatically entered into a contest headlined "Outdoor Living Experience," which includes a propane-powered pizza oven, fire pit, outdoor heater and a stipend for purchasing propane. The package has been donated to the cause by Suburban Propane. In addition, those who donate between Nov. 25 and 28 will get an exclusive long-sleeve Red Cross T-shirt.
A blood drive is set for 1:30 to 6:30 p.m. Dec. 2 at the St. Paul fire hall, 4233 Church Ave. Newberg will see two blood collection events: 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Fred Meyer store and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 11 at Veritas School. 26288 N.E. Bell Road.
While drop-ins are allowed, Red Cross officials are urging individuals to make an appointment to donate blood by visiting RedCrossBlood.org or calling 1-800-733-2767.
