March 31 community briefs
The American Red Cross is seeking the public's help in stockpiling blood and blood products this spring as the impacts of the pandemic and seasonal illnesses continue to stress supplies crucial to patients throughout the region.
To that end, the organization is sponsoring blood drives in communities in northwestern Oregon, including locally. Blood drives are scheduled for 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 9 at Abby's Pizza, 1913 Portland Road; noon to 5 p.m. April 13 at Newberg Church of Christ, 2503 Haworth Ave.; 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 14 at Friends Center, 200 S. College St.; 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. April 15 at the Newberg Fred Meyer store, 3300 Portland Road.
"Donations of all blood types are needed to ensure hospital shelves remains stocked to meet patient blood needs," a release from the organization said.
To schedule a donation, visit RedCrossBlood.org, call 1-800-733-2767 or enable the "Blood Donor Skill" on an Alexa Echo device. Those who donate will be entered into a contest to win one of five $1,000 e-gift cards to a merchant of one's choice when they donate in April.
