Earlier this month, a quartet of Newberg High School students placed fifth in a statewide contest involving poultry evaluation. Kasie Stahlnecker, Alexa Capellen, Lily Wong and Chloe Holveck participated in the event, which simulates "activities related to production and management, processing, marketing and food safety and quality of poultry products," according to the school. Those activities include candling eggs, judging processed poultry items such as chicken nuggets, and identifying the various body parts of poultry animals. Holvcek was the top individual finisher among the Newberg participants, placing 10th in the contest.
