"An Evening of Poetry and Music with Bethany Lee" is slated for 6:30 p.m. July 9 at the Newberg Public Library, which will host the event at its outdoor Carnegie Court.

Lee, a Lafayette resident, recently released her second book, titled "Etude for Belonging: Poems for Practicing Courage and Hope," and will read from her work at the event. Lee, a harpist, also will provide the musical interludes.

Lee — a choral accompanist, hospice harpist and Quaker minister — has published two previous collections of poetry: "The Breath Between: An Invitation to Mystery and Joy" and "Etude for Belonging: Poem for Practicing Courage and Hope."

A recent release from the library sought to characterize her work:

"(Lee's latest book) uses natural images to capture the unity of all life. Lee reminds us that we are connected to the earth, recognizing not only the ways we are supported by the world around us but also the ways in which we find freedom in ourselves. She grounds her readers in images that produce feelings of love and belonging, reminding us that we are not alone in our trials. Her readers will be transformed by the quiet space Lee creates for love and healing, finding peace, wonder, and courage in every poem."
