Two of the park and recreation district's six youth sports camps begin July 10, registrations being taken now

The Chehalem Park and Recreation District will host six different camps over the next five weeks and there is still time to register for all of them.

Both the Flag Football Camp and Youth Tennis Camp will run from Monday to Thursday next week to get things rolling.

The non-contact football camp is designed for players in grades K-2 and will teach participants how to throw and catch, gain confidence and meet new friends. Camp will run from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Newberg High School and costs $69.

Dave Brown will lead the first of two sessions of the Youth Tennis Camp next week, with players 11 and under attending from 9 to 10:45 a.m. and players ages 12-18 attending from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The camp will focus on strokes, scoring, strategy and game situations at Jaquith Park. Cost is $65. The second session of the camp will be held on the same schedule Aug. 7-10.

Next on tap will be CPRD's Pee Wee Sports Camp for youth ages 5-9 July 17-20 at the Jaquith Park tennis courts. Participants will sample soccer, football, hockey, tennis and other sports from 10 a.m. to noon. Cost is $65.

Coach Larry Adams will once again lead CPRD's Junior Tiger Football Camp, which will run from 9 to 11 a.m. July 24-27 at the Crater Sports Complex. Players in grades 3-8 will be introduced/instructed on blocking, passing, receiving and running with the football. Cost is $80.

The CPRD Soccer Camp for players in grades K-8 is set to run from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Aug. 7-10 at the NHS grass soccer field. The high-energy camp run by Jon Halstead will emphasize soccer skills and sportsmanship. Cost is $70.

CPRD will also hold small group tennis lessons for youth and adults in July and August. During two-day sessions July 17 and 19, as well as Aug. 7 and 9, participants will receive individualized instruction in a small group setting from coach Courteney Barnett, who will focus on the basic strokes, rules, scoring, footwork and etiquette. Youth lessons will run from 6 to 7:15 p.m., with adult lessons to follow at 7:30 p.m. Cost is $40 per session.
