Portland Timbers and Portland Thorns will travel to town for a soccer clinic and other events to promote healthy lifestyles

The Portland Timbers and the Portland Thorns FC will visit Providence Newberg Medical Center, Providence Newberg Rehabilitation, the Yamhill Community Action Partnership (YCAP), Harvest House and George Fox University (GFU) later this month.

"We are excited to have the Timbers and Thorns FC come to Newberg for the day," PNMC's chief executive Lori Bergen said in a Timbers Communication press release. "The Rose City Road Trip is a perfect example of building healthier communities, together, and something we are passionate about in Newberg."

The two hospital visits will run from 9 to 10 a.m. on the morning of the trip, heading to the YCAP Harvest House from 10:30 a.m. to noon. The day will end with a youth soccer clinic at Austin Sports Complex, 1953 North Center St., from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.

While Providence Health & Services will organize a toy and book drive to benefit the Harvest House, the Timbers and Thorns will remove weeds from the backyard, cleaning up the YCAP playhouse and interacting with families that pass through the shelter.

The soccer clinic at GFU is open to the public. Participants must be ages 5-13 and must pre-register online at The clinic will feature a training session, an autograph and Q&A session and a session for parents in attendance.
