GFU sports round-up: George Fox will host Yamhill County rival Linfield in first round of NWC tournament on Thursday

George Fox women's basketball clinched its 13th Northwest Conference regular season title with an 85-44 win over Willamette on Friday. The No. 11-ranked Bruins finished 22-3, 15-1 in conference, and host rival Linfield in the first round of the Northwest Conference tournament at 7 p.m. Thursday.

GFU ended the season on a 10-game win streak and has won 13 of its last 14 games. The Bruins have all but guaranteed their place in the NCAA Division III tournament, so the next few games will be more about seeding than earning a spot.

Men's basketball

The GFU men's team finished the regular season on a high note, beating Willamette 92-91 on Ryan Lacey's and-one with 0.7 seconds remaining Friday. The Bruins (13-12, 7-9 NWC) narrowly missed out on the tournament by finishing fifth in the Northwest Conference behind Puget Sound (12-13, 8-8).

GFU graduates two seniors: guard Mason Green-Richards — the Bruins' leading scorer this season at 19.6 ppg — and forward Dylan Hamlett, who led the team with 7.2 rebounds per game.

George Fox baseball went 1-2 in a trio of games in Georgia last weekend, beating Millsaps 12-3 on Friday, losing 8-7 in 10 innings at Piedmont and dropping its game at Oglethorpe 19-13.

The Bruins are 3-4 on the season and look ahead to their first Northwest Conference games of the season. GFU goes on the road for a doubleheader at Pacific Lutheran on Saturday and the third game of the series on Sunday.

GFU's first home game is on March 2 against Puget Sound — the first of a three-game series
