The Newberg team finishes 0.04 behind Westview for the state championship, then wins a national honors at a California tournament

PMG PHOTO - The Newberg High School cheer team missed a state championship at Memorial Coliseum on Feb. 16.

The Newberg High cheer squad finished second in 6A state

competition behind Westview on Feb. 16, trailing the Wildcats 192.6 to 192.2 in the end to take home the second place trophy. After that, the Tigers traveled to Anaheim, Calif., for USA Spirit Nationals, where they won a national championship in the Small Varsity (6-16) Show Cheer Advanced category. Newberg had previously won six state titles and four national titles. The cheerleading program added to its trophy case with an impressive performance in the national competition and returned home earlier this week.
