The Tigers win a pair of hotly-contested games and will face Forest Grove and Liberty to end the season

After struggling throughout much of its 2019 campaign, the Newberg High School baseball team picked up its first series victory of the season last week, beating Glencoe 2-1 in a three-game set. The Tigers are now 4-16 on the season, 3-9 in the Pacific Conference.

Newberg won game one 10-9 at home in a tight contest on April 30. It lost game two by a score of 3-2 the next day at Glencoe.

The Tigers returned home for the series-clinching victory on Friday, a 3-2 win that proved just as competitive as the previous two games.

Newberg played the first of a three-game series against Forest Grove on Tuesday after press time. Games two and three of that series are scheduled for 5 p.m. Wednesday at Forest Grove and 4:30 p.m. Friday in Newberg.

After that, only a three-game set with Liberty remains for Newberg this season. Two of those games – on May 13 and 16 – will be at 4:30 p.m. in Newberg.

It has been a challenging season for a young Tiger team, but just one senior will depart the program upon graduation: catcher Bryce Croft. The remainder of the roster is comprised of juniors, sophomores and one freshman.
