GFU sports round-up: Bruin golf teams playing well
The George Fox University women's golf team picked up a tournament victory over the weekend, winning the Culturame Classic at Willamette Valley Country Club in Canby.
The Bruins were led by senior Rachel Drgastin, who won the individual title as well by shooting a 150 (+6) in the 36-hole tournament.
Drgastin, who hails from Bend, shot a two-over 74 on day two to capture the individual crown. She was trailed by teammates Kayle Hunn, a junior, and Quincy Beyrouty, a freshman, who each shot a 153 (+9). Hunn and Beyrouty tied for third individually.
The Bruins look ahead to the Northwest Conference Fall Classic, which begins Saturday at the OGA Golf Course in Woodburn. GFU is the host school for the tournament.
Men win second tourney of fall
GFU men's golf won a tournament on Sunday, too, taking home the title at the George Fox Invitational. The tournament was held at Gearhart Golf Links on the Oregon coast.
The Bruins won on the backs of a trio that included junior Joshua Lackey, who shot an even 144 on the weekend, and senior Clayton Rajewich, who shot a one-over 145. Senior Mason Koch had a solid tourney as well, finishing at two-over 146.
The men's team will also participate in the NWC Fall Classic this weekend in Woodburn.
Football back at home
GFU's football team had the last week to recover from a heartbreaking 24-23 loss at Puget Sound on Oct. 5. The Bruins are back at Stoffer Family Stadium this Saturday. GFU (1-3, 0-1 NWC) will host Pacific Lutheran for its Hall of Fame game at 1 p.m.
The Lutes are 1-2 on the season, 0-1 in the Northwest Conference.
