St. Paul football, now 7-0 on the season, wins 80-6 for a season-high margin of victory

GARY ALLEN - St. Paul football can't be stopped this season, sitting at 7-0 on the year.

The No. 1 St. Paul Buckaroos racked up another big victory on Friday, putting up 68 points in the first half to roll the Waldport Irish 80-6.

St. Paul's victory, its largest margin of the season, came almost entirely on the ground, as the Buckaroos amassed 524 rushing yards, led by 155 yards and four touchdowns on nine carries from Gianni Grasso. Mitchell Curtis added 116 yards and a touchdown on five carries, as eight different players tallied more than 10 yards on the ground.

Carter Milroy, T.J. Crawford and Jaden Thompson each scored a pair of touchdowns in the win.

St. Paul's lone passing yardage came on a 10-yard completion from Crawford to Saul Martinez, who added 76 rushing yards on four carries.

Defensively, the Bucks held Waldport to 132 yards total, including negative-17 yards through the air, while generating four takeaways on the ground.

Steven Coppola, Payson Weise, Bryce Williams and Logan Connor each finished the game with a fumble recovery. Reed Overfield led the team with eight tackles, followed by five from Coppola.

The win allowed the Bucks (7-0, 4-0 Special District 1-North) to clinch the top spot in the North Division, setting St. Paul up for a league title showdown on Nov. 1 against the No. 3 Lowell Devils (6-1, 3-1 SD1-S), who secured the top seed in the South Division with 68-28 win over No. 9 Mapleton on Friday.

The Buckaroos wrap up the regular season with senior night at the St. Paul Rodeo Grounds on Friday against Falls City (1-5, 1-3 SD1-N).
