This was truly a high school sports season like no other and for Newberg High School's various teams a strange, out-of-order slate of contests has finally come to an end.

The NHS swim team competed in the Pacific Conference meet to finish off the season, with the boys capturing a conference crown and the girls finishing third. The boys amassed 146.5 points to best McMinnville (110) and Sherwood (91.5). The girls finished with 83 points behind second-place Sherwood (141) and first-place McMinnville (155).

The Newberg boys basketball team had a strong season overall, particularly in conference play. The Tigers finished 11-6, including a 10-2 league record with the only losses coming by four points and one point to Sherwood in their two matchups with the Bowmen.

After defeating McMinnville 66-64 in a thriller of a final regular season game, the Tigers played a trio of games in a culminating tournament at Milwaukie High School. Newberg lost 63-38 to Jesuit on June 22, beat Cleveland 50-49 on June 23, and fell 49-46 to Barlow on June 24.

Coach Mark Brown's squad graduates seven seniors: Vaibhav Brooks, Colin Bolek, Corban Muthiah, Carter Stone, Caleb Jackson, Jordan Shinneman and Spencer Lanier.

The NHS girls basketball team had a rougher go of it than the boys this season, finishing 6-8 overall and 5-7 in Pacific Conference play.

While the Tigers lost their final regular season contest 44-32 to rival McMinnville, they finished the season on a high note in their culminating contest. Newberg beat Aloha 59-20 in their final game, ending a dismal season for the Warriors (1-12, 0-9 Metro League).

Five seniors graduate from coach Luke Lindell's team: Lexie Morace, Leah Chadwick, Ashley Kosmicki, Alina Garstka and Paige Krebs.

Newberg's wrestling team competes in the 6A state championships hosted by the Oregon Wrestling Association at NHS on Friday and Saturday. For a full accounting of results, keep an eye on TrackWrestling.com and follow @RyanTClarke on Twitter for live coverage of the medal rounds on Saturday.

Full coverage of Newberg's participation in the 6A wrestling state championships will appear in the June 30 edition of The Graphic.
