Adding to his many off-court ventures, Lake Oswego native and NBA veteran Kevin Love announced in June that he'd be joining Newberg-based Chosen Family Wines as a partner. Channing Frye, Love's former teammate on the Cleveland Cavaliers and a former member of the Portland Trail Blazers, already has his own wine label with the company and brought Love into the fold.COURTESY PHOTO: CHOSEN FAMILY WINES - Lake Oswego native and NBA veteran Kevin Love announced in June that he'd be joining Newberg-based Chosen Family Wines as a partner.

"A few years ago (Frye) came to me with the idea of a partnership in hopes to connect people to each other through some of the best wines in the world," Love wrote in a June 14 Instagram post. "I have come to understand that time is meant to be spent with the people we love and that relationships are what in the end — make us happy. Channing, along with (co-owners Chase Renton and Jacob Gray) helped me to further understand the importance of cultivating these great relationships and how wine can bring us all together."

Chosen Family operates under the umbrella of L'Angolo Estate in Newberg and offers rosé, Syrah and pinot noir in its wine selection, with prices ranging from $30 to $73. The winery was also a participant in the One Barrel Challenge, which sold bottles of wine in an effort to promote equity and diversity in Oregon's wine industry.

Love said he joined Chosen Family because he is "relentlessly curious without fear or prejudice," according to his bio on the Chosen Family Website. It is among Love's first business ventures in Oregon, his home state where he's began to spend more time during off-seasons. Love plays for the Cleveland Cavaliers after a number of seasons in Minnesota. Prior to that, he played college ball at UCLA.

Chosen Family touts its affordability compared to other wines of its stature and emphasizes the community aspect of its label.

"When we look back, good wine has been at the center of so many of our great conversations," the four owners, Love and Frye among them, wrote in a joint statement on the company's website. "During a recent Chosen Family meal we were talking about time and how it's one of our most precious commodities -- and how important it is to spend it well, surrounded by the people that matter most.

"We believe in doing things the right way, with purpose, respect and compassion. We believe in taking time to celebrate the best life has to offer and we believe in giving the best you've got. It's what brought us where we are today and what continues to bring us back together."
