George Fox's Alison Takamiya to play in women's amateur tournament
George Fox University's Alison Takamiya has qualified to play in the 2022 United States Women's Amateur, the second consecutive year a golfer from the university has qualified to participate in the tournament.
Hosted by United States Golf Association and in its 122nd year, the tournament will take place Aug. 8-14 at Chambers Bay golf course in University Place, Washington.
Takamiya finished first out of 28 golfers at a qualifying event at Waialae Country Club in Oahu, Hawaii. She scored a 72. Kate Nakaoka from Millilani and Allysha Mae Mateo from Brigham Young University also qualified, coming up one stroke short of Takamiya.
Last year, GFU's Makensie Toole qualified for the tournament.
"We are so excited for Alison," Coach Mary Jo McCloskey said. "The field she played against was primarily NCAA DI golfers and it's so cool to see Makensie make a splash last year and now have Alison make it, too."
The amateur tournament will be held on a links-style course, the same style as Takamiya's qualifying course. Stroke play starts on Aug. 8-9, with the top 64 advancing to match play on Aug. 10-14, after which the victor will be crowned.
