Council will discuss Newberg-Dundee bypass
The only public hearing slated for the Dec. 2 meeting of the Newberg City Council is a discussion of an ordinance amending the citys transportation system plan to reflect the Phase I alignment of the Newberg-Dundee Bypass.
The first phase of construction will include realignment of Wilsonville Road to improve connectivity between it and Highway 219 and meet Oregon Department of Transportation operating standards in 2016.
If left unimproved, the current Wilsonville Road/Springbrook Road intersection would not meet the citys operating standard in 2016 and would operate at a lower level of service than the no-build alternative due to increased traffic on Springbrook Road following the opening of the bypass, according to the citys strategic assessment,
Also on the agenda is a proclamation submitted by Mayor Bob Andrews to support Oregon City and honor Police Reserve Officer Robert Libke, who was slain after responding to a house fire Nov. 3.
The council will also consider a motion to adopt an ordinance amending code provisions for the Citizens Rate Review Committee, effective Dec. 3.
In addition, a discussion will be held concerning Villa Road sidewalk improvements with Jay Harris, the citys interim public works director/city engineer, and City Attorney Truman Stone.
The council will also consider reappointing Allyn Edwards, Matthew Fortner and Art Smith to the planning commission. All will serve terms expiring in December 2016. The council will also consider reappointing of Karl Birky and Dianna Cotter and appointing David Hostetler to the Traffic Safety Commission. They will also serve terms expiring in December 2016. Chris Kelley is under consideration for a term expiring in December 2015 on the commission.
