Finance director latest to depart local school district
The Newberg School District announced Monday that finance director Ilean Clute has accepted an offer to take a similar position in Forest Grove.
Clute worked as director of business and support services in Forest Grove before joining Newberg in 2017. She will join Superintendent Dave Parker, who will leave his position as assistant superintendent June 30.
"I am grateful to the Newberg School District and its community for the opportunity to work with some amazing people this last year," Clute said. "This has been a very difficult decision for me to make, but right now, I have an opportunity to be closer to my son and family."
During the recent budgeting season, Clute was lauded for deeply analyzing Newberg's accounting practices and correcting some amid an effort to address the district's $4 million shortfall.
"Ilean has done an incredible job for us and we are very sad to see her go," said board chairman Bob Woodruff. "She has led us through a difficult season of budget reduction and given us a budget for next year that sets us up for long term financial stability."
According to a release from the district, Newberg will post the position immediately and keep it open until it is filled.
"Plans are being made for a smooth transition, with Ms. Clute remaining in Newberg long enough to ensure that the fiscal year financials are closed out effectively," the release said.
Clute's departure is the latest for Newberg schools, which will feature an interim superintendent (Joe Morelock) and interim lead principal (Tami Erion) at Newberg High School for the 2018-2019 school year following the resignations of Kym LeBlanc-Esparza and Kyle Laier. The district will search for permanent replacements in those positions during the coming year.
